What causes auto insurance to go up if no accidents have happened?

I am a bit puzzled by this. I do not understand why or how my insurance is going up but it is! I got notified I will be seeing an increase of $23 per month. I am likely going to look for a cheaper option before it is up to save me the hassle and not overpay. What causes this to happen when no accidents were made?
