My medical bill never arrived?

I am curious about this. When someone doesn't have insurance and goes to the ER, they get told they will be sent a bill. What happens if that bill is never issued? When my wife and I were without insurance in 2021, I had an accident with a nail gun. Needless to say, it was not a cheap accident. This was back in October. I applied for some assistant pay thing while at the hospital as well. I have been getting phone calls for that almost daily to the point where I had to block the number. I have not gotten my bill yet to even go over anything. It has been almost 8 months. Do I just keep waiting or contact the hospital?
